Use Of Speed
| You should drive at a speed where you can stop safely well within the distance of your headlights. You should also drive at a speed where other road users can deal with your position in the road etc.Remember pedestrians may step into the road from nowhere.Where there are street lamps 200yards apart or less the speed limit is 30MPH.This is the maximum speed you are legally allowed to drive at.If the road is tight lots of parked cars etc,30 MPH is too fast for the road conditions.Remember it also takes longer to stop in the wet and ice.As a word of warning you can be prosecuted for driving over the speed limit resulting in point on your licence, fines, higher car insurance. If you have just passed your test and you incur 6 penalty points or more within 2 years of you passing your driving test, you are back to retake the theory and driving test again.I have taken 3 of my pupils back for retests. You would think putting up we me the first time was enough. | ![]() |

The blue sign to the left denotes a minimum speed limit. This is put there to maintain the flow of traffic and to reduce hold ups.Driving too slow is as bad as driving too fast as drivers behind you get frustrated and will endeavour to take risks to overtake you which could result in a car crash involving you,an oncoming vehicle,or both. |
| The national speed limit is 60 MPH on a single lane carriageway and 70 MPH on a dual carriageway or motorway. If you are an HGV Vehicle or a car towing a caravan etc the speed limit is 10MPH less depending the type of road you are on.I could take you on roads that show a 60MPH sign that are very narrow and lots of bends. Not even Nigel Mansell could drive at 60 MPH on these roads and survive.SO if not safe to do it don’t.BOY RACER YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED | ![]() |

The sign to the right means you are approaching a double bend first to the left.Your slowest point of entry should be at the beginning of the bend so you will need to do your MSM Routine and be in the correct gear before the bend. You should also be aware that there may be traffic round the bend.Excessive speed will put you into the right hand side of the road as the faster you go more external force pushes the car to the right when you turn to the left.If you do not believe me put an object on the center of the dashboard and turn left and watch the object go to the right.AGAIN TAKE HEED BOY RACER |
