Important Use Of Mirrors
No body seems to understand how important it is to see what is happening behind them.If you were walking along a dark street late at night I am sure you would be concerned if there was anyone close behind you.The same applies whilst driving any vehicle along the road at whatever time of day or night.
Before you move from a parked position you must check your mirrors and over your right shoulde(BLIND SPOT),so as not to cause a road user to slow brake, swerve or be involved in a collision with you.
You should check behind you every time before you slow down. You need to know if there is anything close behind you and will give you some idea how to apply the footbrake without somebody going into the back of you..
You need to check behind also before you speed up.A vehicle may be overtaking you.If you increase speed you will keep the passing car out wide.Ther could also be an oncomming car.The car overtaking you has nowhere to go.If it has the choice of a head on collision or avoiding it,then the driver has no choice but to steer into you.The side it will hit is yours. You will get severely injured and possibly be cut by broken glass. If a car is passing you then you do not speed up.
You must check your interior mirror and right wing mirror before you move out to pass stationary cars or to change a lane.Any time before you change direction you must check. That means if you are going to deviate from a straight line you must check what is behind you.You must check the right wing mirror as you will not see anything passing alongside of you in th interior mirror.Do not move out if anything is passing you.Imagine you are on a 60 MPH Dual Carriageway and have decided to move out and pass a slow moving vehicle. You have not bothered to check your mirrors and a car is passing you. You are now involved in a high speed impact crash which you have caused. As a result of this you have caused severe damage to 2 or several cars, sustained serious injury to yourself and other parties,if your car is only third party insurance it is probably beyond repair and you will not get paid for the damage.Your insurance will pay the damage to the other parties. You could also be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention or worse, resulting in a fine, possible imprisonment, points on your licence making your insurance premiums higher,if you can get insurance at renewal date. This is not an accident but what I call aPURPOSE.You must have wnated to be involved in a car crash as you could not be bothered to check your mirrors.I have no way of making you look in your mirrors,I keep telling you all till I am blue in the face.I have had more casualties on failing a driving test on the mirrors than a rail disaster. If anyone knows a legal way to cure this please let me know.
