TURNING RIGHT

Check the interior and right wing mirror and if safe put on a right hand signal.

Move over to the right and keep just left of the centre line.If there is no line draw an imaginary line on the centre of the road

First check to see if there is an oncomming car etc (at this stage there isn't).

Once the signal is on start braking to slow down

Next look into the road where you are turning into, to see if there are any obstructions on the left. (at this stage there are none).

By looking into the road, will also tell you the speed  and gear you need for the turn.If you can turn at 10mph  you will need 2nd gear.

You need to be in second gear the same distance from the turn as you do for turning left with the clutch up.

You make your turn just as you get to the centre line of the road you are turning into.

Look at the kerb and get your correct driving distance from the kerb. You will need to straighten up on a left angle. This will depend on your speed and how you turn the wheel. This will involve you having to steer slightly towards the kerb on your left side.

When the car is straight adjust speed to conditions of the road.

TURNING WITH AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE ROAD, YOU WISH TO TURN INTO

Having done the msm routine and there is nothing coming towards you, again you look into the road.

If there is a parked car on the left of the road in which you wish to turn into, depending on the width of road etc, will determine speed and the gear you need to make the turn.

You will now have to cut the corner. You cut as little as possible but enough to clear the obstruction.

By cutting the corner you have to worry about cars coming down the road that you are going to turn into.

If there is a car coming down the road near the obstruction, you will have to stop and not make the turn.It is your priority to turn but as you can't fit safely into the road, you have to give up your priority. You need to stop where you will be able to turn and not hit the parked car which is on the left and allowing the moving car to turn out of the road.

Obviously if there is nothing else in the road except the obstuction you make the turn, clear the parked car and check the mirror to see you have cleared the parked car and move back to your distance from the kerb.

If there are parked cars on the major road to your right obstructing your view, you will need to be slower at a speed of 5mph and 1st gear, as this will give you more time to see what is coming down the road you wish to turn into.

Turning With An Oncomming Car

Once you have done the msm routine and there is an oncomming car you will have to judge where it will be when you get to your point of turn.

This will depend on the speed of the oncomming car, your car,and your brain as you will have to make the judgement.

the oncomming car has priority over you, as it has a straight path along the major road.

You must not make the oncomming car slow down, skid swerve etc by turning across it.

Deciding you can't turn ,you need to be slowing down and going into 1st gear, whilst you are moving along the road.you need to get first gear a car length from the centre line of the road you are turning into.(which is your turning point)the clutch stays down as you are going to stop.

You now look for your place to stop which is your turning point. If you go past it you will be turning with the front of your car to near the kerb of the corner.

When you stop you need to be parallel to the centre line of your road so cars can pass you on the left.If you are at an angle with the rear end of your car pointing to the left kerb, cars may not be able to pass.

When it is safe to make the turn you need to check all mirrors.for cars passing on the left of you and motor bikes passing on the right.

You will need to use  clutch control to move off for the turn. You need to use clutch control until the car is round the corner and in a straight line.Bringing the clutch up fully too soon will cause the car to speed up,and will result in you not being able to steer in time, resulting in a steering fault or worse stil,l veering off into a car on your right hand side.

Remember to steer to the kerb on all right turns so as you do not go out to your right making a steering error
